Studying

What are "directions" and why set them?

Every term can be asked from several sides: English → Polish, Latin → Polish, Latin → English, Polish → English. Those are directions. On first launch you state which language you already know and the app enables a sensible set. You can change the rest in settings.

Turning a direction off does not delete cards — they simply leave the queue. Turn it back on and they return with their full review history.

Why is this term due today?

The app uses FSRS, an algorithm that estimates for each card individually when you are about to forget it and schedules the review just before that point. Your ratings (Again / Hard / Good / Easy) move that date. Rate honestly: inflated ratings stretch the intervals and the term falls out of your head.

Three modes — what is the difference?

  • Review — classic self-rating. The only mode that fully writes back the scheduling state.
  • Typing — you type the answer. Letter case and extra spaces do not matter; whether Polish diacritics are required is a switch you set before starting.
  • Section review — a quick pass through a chosen section before an exam, in random order. It does not change your review schedule, so it cannot spoil your plan.

Your own cards and import

What CSV format does the import expect?

The first row is a header with column names. Recognised names are: term_pl, term_en, term_la, comment, tags. At least one term column is required; Latin may be empty. The separator is a comma or a semicolon (the wizard detects it), encoding UTF-8. In the wizard you can map columns by hand if your names differ.

Can I import from Anki or SuperMemo?

Yes. The wizard accepts an Anki package (.apkg) and a SuperMemo collection in XML. Import is part of the full version.

Do my cards go anywhere?

No. Everything you add stays in the database on your device. We have no access to it — see the privacy policy.

Backup

How do I protect my progress before switching phones?

Settings → Backup → Create backup. You get a single file that you save wherever you like — in the cloud, on a drive, in a message to yourself. On the new device choose Restore backup and point at that file. The backup covers your decks, progress and settings.

Restore rejects my file

The app accepts only backups it created itself — the file carries a signature that is checked on import. If the file was modified or converted along the way (by a mail client or an archiving tool, for instance), the signature stops matching. Send it to yourself as an attachment, without changing its name or extension.

Purchases

I paid, but the terms are still locked

Check that you are signed in to the same store account you bought with, then use Restore purchase on the purchase screen. That one operation needs an internet connection. If it does not help, write to us and include the store order number.

How do I cancel a subscription?

In your store account settings: Google Play → Subscriptions or App Store → Subscriptions. We have no access to your subscription and cannot cancel it for you. After cancelling you keep the full base until the end of the paid period, and your progress stays on the device.

Is "lifetime access" really one-off?

Yes — it is a non-renewing purchase. Nothing renews and nothing expires. Details in the terms of use.

Something is wrong with a term

A wrong translation, a typo, doubtful Latin — write to instaling@instaling.pl, ideally with the section name and the card's content. Corrections ship with the next base update.
